Fox Reporter Argues With Religious Nut
Tuesday, April 12, 2011
In a recent news broadcast by Fox News, an interview got heated when a female news reporter got into an argument with a guest associated with the Westboro Baptist Church.
During the interview, the news reporter posed difficult questions to the Westboro representative. The questions were far from objective, and shed a bad light on the Westboro Baptist Church from the beginning.
Unlike most news reporters this journalist did not hide her opinions on the subject. This resulted in a heated debate between the two that presented strong opinions and bad language from the Westboro representative.
Watching this as someone that is strongly disgusted by what the Westboro Baptist Church does, I was all for what the interviewer was saying.
However, from a journalistic prospective, this was a very dangerous move on the reporter's part. Entering into a strongly worded argument and inserting personal opinion in a news broadcast is risky.
Although I applaud her for what she did, I hope she didn't lose her job over the incident.

These people are insane! It makes me embarrassed to be a Kansan. Freedom of speech is a tricky subject, yes people should be free to say what they will but at the same time creating havoc during times of sadness is wrong.
I've seen a piece of journalism on the Westboro people from a talented freelancer from Britain that refrained from arguing with them and still showed how ridiculous their organization is. If this journalist is willing to argue with the Westboro people what's to stop her from doing the same with people who are less outlandish the next time she personally disagrees?
What else was she supposed to do, Lucas? She has an opinion, too. Some people have more strong feelings about some topics than others. The Big Story host was nowhere out of bounds here.
I would also agree in a way with Ben. I think people could have easily picked up on the insanity and disgusting views of the Westboro church without the reporter stating and yelling it over and over. On the other hand, I applaud the reporter for calling the woman out and attempting to put her in her place.
I am so glad I found this video while surfing the web last week. I was in shock about the whole thing when first watching. I very much applauded the interviewer for the way she reacted, I know I would have reacted similarly. However, it is not very journalistic the way the situation was handled.
