Who Cares About the Emmys?
Monday, September 19, 2011
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Emmys dropped a million viewers from last year. This statement is not suprising and should have dropped more than a million viewers.
But when all America's coverage and center focus is the Emmys its hard to have the viewing number drop more. When our world is at war with two different countries, in major debt crisis, and constantly increasing the
unemployment rate more coverage should be directed towards those issues.
The Emmys are entertainment and should have little but some coverage. War and the debt crisis should be broadcasted and be covered fully. Media should have a direct focus on American society. Media needs to have priorities when chosing coverage of topics.
However some people are concerned with the Emmys most people would rather be worrying about our society and where it stands. This leaves me with my statement "Who Cares About the Emmys?"

It is sad but true how many people are still concerned in nothing but social media. You are completely correct in thinking that media coverage should be devoted to the happenings of our country, but so many people are driven by their desire for gossip and being in the know of what is going on socially, that without this outlet, people would go nuts! My personal opinion though, I would rather see less of things like the Emmy Awards and Reality TV and more of important details that actually pertain to our daily life. Good post!
In an ideal world people would be up to date on every current event and have an informed opinion about all things happening in our country. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world. People often come home after a long day at work and need a break. Tuning in to something other than the news gives people minds the chance to "decompress."
Although I feel that being an uninformed American is a terrible mistake, the need for alternative entertainment, such as the Emmy's, is there.
