One of the biggest news this week was Stephen Hawking's release of his new book "The Grand Design", in which he argues that God did not have anything to do with the creation of the universe. In fact, Hawking states that "the 'Bing Bang' was the result of the laws of physics and did not need God to spark the creation of the universe". In other words, the universe created itself out of nothing, an idea known as spontaneous creation. Thus, the debate begins.

As expected, in a world where the majority of people belong to a certain religion, thoughts and comments against physics being the only explanation to the creation of the universe have been quickly spread throughout the web. Tweets on Twitter and video comments on YouTube are two examples of the ways people opt to share their thoughts. While a few comments clearly show support for Hawking's ideas, many others show strong disapproval against him. CNN reported that on Friday September 3rd, the same day Hawking revealed his book, religious leaders immediately responded to Hawking's explanation of existence.

I believe there is an infinite source of intelligence behind the creation of the universe and I call him God. I might be wrong or I might be right, the truth is nobody knows the exact explanation behind the creation of the universe.

This is certainly a topic where opinion is important. What is your opinion on the controversy caused by Hawking's statements?
