The development of smart phones and tablets majorly affects how the news is perceived.
This technology gives the average citizen more power. Journalists aren't always there when news happens so giving citizens power gurantees that almost all breaking news will get covered by someone.
Many times stories are broke on Twitter by average citizens who just happen to be at the right place at the right time.
